Notre Dame is offering fans a chance to purchase a piece of the grass field at Notre Dame Stadium according to the South Bend Tribune. The iconic football stadium is switching from natural grass to synthetic FieldTurf this season and school officials are hoping to capitalize on the move.
For the price of 149.95, fans will receive a 5-by-2 foot piece of sod that will ship Wednesday and arrive Friday (two-day delivery from UPS). Each roll of grass comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity.
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said last week at the ACC spring meetings in Amelia Island said reaction to the renovations to the 84-year-old stadium were ‘very positive.’
The sales of the field could generate more than $800,000 according to the South Bend Tribune, which speculates that ‘5,760 pieces of sod could be sold. If each sells for $150, that’s $864,000.’
The new FieldTurf will debut on Aug. 30 when Notre Dame plays host to Rice.
